What types of photos do you accept on Modelfolios?
Here’s a rough guide to what we accept:
- We prefer good-quality fashion and beauty photos.
- Models should submit professional fashion/beauty photos taken by a qualified photographer. Note that these should be photos from a modelling portfolio.
- Photographers, designers, stylists, make-up artists, and hair stylists should always submit photos of their fashion/beauty work on one or more models, taken by a qualified photographer.
- Designers may also submit runway/catwalk photos.
- Scans and tear sheets may be acceptable.
- Photos should be uncluttered.
- Photos should be sharp, and not out-of-focus or blurry.
- Photos should not be extremely overexposed or bright (or have extremely bright areas).
- Photos should not be extremely underexposed or dark (or have extremely dark areas).
- We generally don’t accept glamour-type photos, or photos that contain nudity.
- We don’t accept photos of landscapes, nature, or other general subjects.
- We may not accept a photo if the orientation is clearly incorrect, e.g. the photo is turned on its side. Please make sure you double-check your photos are the right way up before you upload! There are other websites where you can do basic editing tasks on your photos such as rotation — one we especially like is Picnik.
- You should make sure that any photo you upload is more than about 300x300 pixels in size.
We may update these guidelines from time to time, so check back regularly.
How long will I have to wait for my photos to be approved?
We realise you’ll want to get your folio set up with your photos as quickly as possible, so we act quickly to approve your new photos. We promise it will be at most 30 days, but usually it’ll be much, much sooner. If, for whatever reason, we have to decline any photos, we will send you a message to let you know.
I’ve seen other people have customised the backgrounds of their folios with their own photographs. How can I do that?
You can set any photos that are public in your folio to be your background — just go to the individual page for the photo you’d like to pick, and select it there. The background you choose will also display behind your home page and your messaging area. More importantly, it will display in the background when anyone else views your folio, so it is a great way to give your folio your own look.
Tags are labels or keywords that allow your photos to be more searchable. People visiting your folio can browse your photos using the tags — so you can use them to point people to a particular set of photos.
How do I bookmark a member? Why would I want to bookmark a member?
You may bookmark a member for quick access to the member’s profile later on. Bookmarking a member also enables you to send them a message from your Messaging page without having to navigate to their profile. To bookmark a member, click on the Bookmark me link in the navigation bar on the left-hand side of the member’s profile. No notification takes place when a member is bookmarked or removed from your bookmarks.
You can view and manage your currently bookmarked members on your Manage my bookmarks page.
Note: Bookmarking a member is very different from bookmarking (and sharing) a member’s profile page using an external utility like del.icio.us.
What is a network? How do I add a member to my network?
Your network should consist of members that you have either worked with or are connected to in the real world. You can add a member to your network by clicking on the Add me to your network link in the navigation bar on the left-hand side of the member’s profile.
When you add a member to your network, the member is sent a message notifying them that you’ve added them, and they will be given the option to either reciprocate or block you (in which case the member will be removed from your network, and you will not be able to add the member, or send them messages, as long as you are blocked by them). No notification takes place when you remove a member from your network.
You can view and manage your current network on your Manage my network page. Your network is also displayed underneath your profile on your profile page.
How do I block a member? Why would I want to block a member?
You may block a member if you don’t want to receive messages from the member; to remove yourself from their network; and/or to prevent them from adding you to their network. To block a member, click on the Block me link in the navigation bar on the left-hand side of the member’s profile.
When you block a member, you are removed from the member’s network (if you are in their network). The member will not be able to send you messages or add you to their network when you block them. No notification takes place when a member is blocked or unblocked.
You can view and manage your currently blocked members on your Manage my blocked members page.
I heard Modelfolios has a beautiful transparent interface, but I can’t see it!
If you are a Windows user using Internet Explorer 6 as your browser you will see Modelfolios with a simpler appearance that does not use transparent areas as that browser does not have sufficient support for transparency. We hope you still find Modelfolios easy-to-use and beautiful to look at in Internet Explorer 6 — and assure you that the functionality is still exactly the same. If, though, you would like to use the full transparent version, please consider upgrading your browser to Internet Explorer 7 (users of Windows XP SP2 only), or using a more fully-featured browser such as Firefox, Opera or Safari in order to view Modelfolios.
