Today I did my first bridal magazine shoot for a new mag called Mocha Bride, which releases its first issue this June. I had SO much fun! I had always wanted to do a bridal shoot but most of the castings I found were looking for taller models and not many were in need of ethnic models. So luckily, I came across Mocha Bride, which is dedicated to women of color and helping them with their wedding and bridal needs.

I never really gave much thought to weddings, gowns, getting married, etc, but soon as I put on my dress for the shoot, I realized why girls fuss so much over weddings and getting married! lol. I felt so elegant in my dress, especially when the hair and makeup was all put together. I shot with four other models at a nice mansion out in Oakland, CA and then a golf course area. I got a lot of really great shots and can't wait to add them to my portfolio, not to mention the tearsheets once the magazine comes out. While I loved the moment and the posing, it got pretty tiring having to be super careful about not messing up the dresses--even more hectic having two or three people helping you carry the dress anytime you had to walk or sit down someplace!

Has anyone else done any bridal shoots? What was your experience like?

Haha, I totally agree! It's fun to be the center of attention and to be wearing such gorgeous gowns. I actually got invited back to their second shoot for the magazine because they had a last minute model cancellation, so this time I got to model short wedding dresses, which I guess is starting to be the trend now. Although I don't think I'd want to wear a short wedding dress, I mean how often do you get to wear such a spectacular dress that is long and flowing, you know?

It was interesting because for the second shoot they were requesting models that were 5'9" and taller so I thought I would be the shorty in the group since I wasn't one of the originally cast models but with my high heels I blended in just fine with the taller models who had heels as well! I swear, this height thing when it comes to photography really isn't all that important in my opinion hahaha. I pulled it off just fine!

Well, in reality are that many women 5'9?  Not really. Brides will want to see models of a more normal height in a dress. I know a lot of brides that look at dresses and go "Yeah but she's really tall it won't look like that on me' so I think they should make a point of using shorter models and also, plus sized girls sometimes.

I completely agree with you! I can't tell you how many times I've said those exact words when it comes to just about any fashion I see in a magazine or catalog. I learned my lesson after trying to buy dresses and similar fashions from the Victoria's Secret catalog. Even with their petite sizing chart, the clothes never fit me right. Now when it comes to VS, I stick to their underwear and bathing suits...they're the only things that I know will fit me right. Sometimes I look at their pants and slacks and it will say that the inseam is something like 34-36 inches, which boggles my mind because my inseam is 29 inches! That's a lot of extra fabric!
