Because I adore make up, I wanted to find formal training.  In the UK, full make up schools are very expensive.

Greasepaint and Lond-Est.com for example are extremely expensive.  I am taking about 3,000 - 6,000!  Thats for a few months of training.

As an alternative I trained at college.  College courses are normally somewhat funded by the government (in the UK anyway) and are far more reasonable, around £200 and £100 for tools.  I did a NVQ course at the college and whilst I wouldn't say it was as specialized as the big make up schools it gave me a great foundation.  Where else did people train?

Honestly, makeup artist schools are real expensive anywhere! i'm from the u.s. (california) i paid about 5,000 for a 6 week course! a bit insane, right? although, i learned a lot, i felt that the school i went to didn't meet my expectations and feel like i could've learned more too else where. good luck with your future! if you're ever in the states, let's do a photo session!  :)

    Hi Jennie

Yes its so expensive - wow $5000 or a 6 week course! I did do a college course once, the price was a fraction of a specialist school and it showed - everything about it was quite bad so I didn't stay on!

    Hello Everyone!

I'm a graphic designer and I work as a Make up Artist. I have some training but I'm looking for a modern professional make up school. I'm in Milwaukee and I found a school 2 weeks $3400. $5000 for 6 weeks in California seems like a great deal! I would appriciate an advise of a good make up school in Chicago.

I go to David Nicholas International in Boston, MA.  It's a really good school...you are trained one on one with world famous makeup artist, David Nicholas himself.   It's about 2500 for the Studio session (which I recently completed) Another 2000 for the Advanced session, and another 2500 for the Commercial session.  It can get pricy, but the great thing with this school is that he is VERY flexible with the payments, and you're not forced to rush into the next session right away.

    I love it

    Hey all!

I trained at Vancouver Film School.  Yes, it was expensive, but I don't regret a bit of it.  Best school, ever, I think, if you're interested in film makeup at all.  That said, they don't just do film, but also instruct on print work.  All instructors have worked in (and still do) work in film.  I took it as a 6-month program and they've since gone to a full year.

If anyone wants/needs to know more, don't hesitate to contact me!
