With the ways things are in the economy I have been trying to control my sudden splurges - there are so many cheaper stores to buy from things from these days thats its easy to buy a bit here, buy a bit there - before you know it you've just spent £200 a month on nothing.

So I am thinking of investing in some things. Like the classic black pumps, the luxury black bag (chanel) things that will stand the test of time.

How are you buying choices affected by the recession?

This is a great topic! I haven't been buying anything at all when it comes to clothes and even though I'm not really all that into shopping, I still like to pick up cute things for myself every now and then. Not being able to do so lately makes me sad! lol. I actually do need to invest in some nice black heels, both strappy/open toed, and closed toed/more conservative. I'm finding that these two shoes styles will help me greatly not only in wearing my regular clothes but for my modeling assignments as well. When I do need to do some shopping, I almost always turn to online shopping for good deals or I'll ask some friends if they've noticed any good sales at the mall. Other than the shoes, I've done pretty good with already owning most investment pieces.

I'm the same - I don't buy that much on the whim off the high street because generally I can get it cheaper online!  Plus I realised that having super cheap shops near me like Primark is annoying - I used to pop in and buy cheap clothes a lot - then never touch them again especially as they don't hold up after a wash.

I've promised myself I will stop now :) I bought a leather jacket most recently, its lovely and should last many wears!

Oooh, having a good leather jacket is definitely a good article of clothing to have in your closet! I'm still being pretty lazy about getting some good black heels (I mainly want strappy ones with a 4 inch heel)...I was hoping to buy the same brand of heels that I have in taupe but it turns out that those shoes only come in that one color! So frustrating. I bought the shoes online and haven't really found anything else that I've liked.

I don't know if they have the DSW Shoe Store in the UK but they are a great store that sells brand name shoes for a fraction of the regular price but thing is, they stopped selling 4 inch heels because I guess they weren't selling a lot so all they have are 3 inches and less. And being a shorter model, I can't afford to lack that one inch! haha.

I've been looking into ordering another pair of the same taupe heels and having them professional dyed, but it would depend on how much it costs and if it's worth the effort or if it's just easier to spend time looking for a separate pair of black heels altogether. Argh, decisions, decisions!

I love, love, love my taupes! They are one of those pieces that I believe totally doesn't get the credit it deserves. It's one of those things where it doesn't seem right but then you try it on and you're like, "Yes!" I think you will definitely love whatever taupe shoes you get!

Oh, and I finally found a cute pair of close toed black heels. I actually found them at Payless Shoes of all places. And they were only $20! Score! I don't think they're 4 inches, probably 3 but they still add height and for shoots they work out well. But they are the shiny kind...not sure of the terminology but I think it would be "patent leather?" I like them but would like to find a pair that isn't patent leather as well. Sometimes I don't like the shiny look with all of the outfits I would wear but they were a great find and will do for now. I love great fashion finds when I'm not looking!

I would love to see whatever taupe shoes you end up buying--good luck on your hunt!

    Hi!

Hmmm...That's interesting. Some people put beige and taupe in the same color category and I myself don't see much difference but it all depends. I guess it varies from person to person as to whether the two are similar in color or completely different.

Well, I have a link here to the actual taupe shoes that I bought, they are 4 inches though so I'm not sure if you'll feel comfortable in those but the site is Shoebuy.com. Not sure if they deliver outside the US but it couldn't hurt to look around their site if they do...they've got some pretty decent prices and nice shoes:

As far as the whole heel thing, what height do you feel most comfortable walking in or at least semi comfortable? I don't know if you have a Payless Shoe Store in the UK or an equivalent of it but maybe try finding taupe heels in that type of store that sells the shoes for much less and experiment. If you can at least find a decent cheaper pair of heels, maybe 2-3 inches, those can be your practice pair of heels that you don't have to worry about messing up. You can practice walking in those each day until you feel more confident in them and can perhaps move up to 4 inches and/or buy the actual taupe heels you want (if you can manage to find them!).
