When you are having a shoot with a photographer you should always negotiate about getting a CD rather than buying prints from them - infact, it may be worth more getting a CD than getting a small fee.  You can take this CD to anywhere print even cheap supermarkets and edit the images yourself later on rather than relying on a photographer.

Yes, I agree. Prints are great but not if you have to pay extra to get them. With a CD you can have as many images as you want or at least the ones you really like and get as many prints as you want afterwards any time you need them. Most photographers have no problem with giving a CD with images after a shoot. Often it takes a long time for them to retouch all the images or get around to giving prints so simply burning a bunch of images to CD is much more cost effective and timely.

For models, it doesn't hurt to learn Photoshop and simple things like cropping, lighting and fixing blemishes, etc. Plus, it's fun once you learn how to do it!

Totally! Always get a CD! I know some shady guys who have refused so they have made some money from the models or some shots.  Basic photoshopping (or any other editing program) is a great idea you can also play with colour casts and lighting - and make your images black and white too.
